Veneers

Customized veneers are crafted by skilled technicians and placed over the front surfaces of teeth. They can conceal all types of flaws (i.e., gaps, chips, cracks, stains, misshapen teeth, mild misalignment, etc.) and can last 10+ years as long as you commit to taking better care of your smile. While veneers require the removal of a small portion of tooth enamel for optimal placement, Lumineers do not. Thinner than traditional veneers, these custom coverings are reversible but deliver the same great coverage.

Metal-Free Dental Restorations

As a health-conscious, conservative dentist who cares about patients’ smiles and total-body health, Dr. Mahler uses metal-free restorations. Should you suffer from damaged or decayed teeth that need protection, he can use lithium disilicate, EMAX, zirconia, or bruxir to create a natural appearance that delivers greater function as well as beautiful aesthetics.

Cosmetic Dental Bonding

Cosmetic bonding is a less invasive form of treatment that does not require the removal of tooth enamel to conceal imperfections. Instead, we use a composite resin that is color-matched and applied directly to the front surfaces of teeth. Dr. Mahler will sculpt the resin into place before using a curing light to harden it. The process takes only one appointment, and you can expect a smile that looks flawless when we are finished.

Teeth Whitening

When you no longer feel good about your smile because of the tooth stains that have formed over the years, our team can recommend a new way to eliminate discoloration and brighten your smile – teeth whitening. Using Pola at-home whitening kits, we make it easy to treat your teeth on your own time so that you see noticeable results in just two weeks. Complete with custom whitening trays and bleaching gel, you can whiten when it’s convenient for you.

Gum Recontouring/ Crown Lengthening

Excessive gum tissue that grows around teeth can be problematic if left untreated. While the appearance may cause you to feel embarrassed or ashamed, it is the risk of gum disease that is the real concern. To alleviate this problem while also enhancing the look of your smile, Dr. Mahler can perform gum recontouring with our diode laser, which is the process of removing excess gum tissue to create a more balanced gumline. A similar process – crown lengthening – can be used to expose more tooth enamel so that custom restorations can be bonded into place for greater tooth protection.

Digital Smile Design

Smile 312 Chicago's Premier Dentist is pleased to have a 100% digital workflow. Part of this means that we can incorporate the use of digital smile design into your treatment plan so that you can see your results beforehand. This innovative solution eliminates the guesswork associated with cosmetic dentistry, making it possible for you to feel more confident about your future results and comfortable with the work Dr. Mahler and our team will provide.

Smile Makeovers

Smile makeovers can be a great way to address multiple aesthetic dental imperfections. Dr. Mahler will examine your teeth and gums and listen to your concerns before developing a treatment plan that incorporates two or more restorative or cosmetic dentistry procedures. This streamlined process makes it easier and more conducive as opposed to addressing each individual problem, which not only costs more but requires more time.

Understanding the Cost of Cosmetic Dentistry

While many patients want to improve the appearance of their smile, some are hesitant to learn more about cosmetic dentistry treatment because they’re concerned about the cost. While it’s true that in most cases cosmetic dentistry is not covered by dental insurance, at Smile 312 Chicago’s Premier Dentist, we’re happy to help you navigate your needs and find a solution that works best for your finances. We have a variety of different treatment options to choose from at different price points, but we know that you can’t put a price on the confidence you’ll gain from having a beautiful, healthy smile!

What Cosmetic Dental Treatment is Right for Me?

When it comes to improving their smile, most people are typically trying to accomplish one of three main goals: whiter teeth, straighter teeth, or differently shaped or sized teeth.  Dr. Mahler can help you explore your possible treatment options, including:

  • Cosmetic Dental Bonding: This is an excellent option for making small changes to your smile, such as reshaping damaged teeth or covering noticeable flaws. It is often the most affordable treatment available; however, it does not last as long as other options.
  • Teeth Whitening: Pola at-home whitening kits are mid-range in terms of their cost, and an excellent option for patients who want a brighter smile in about two weeks.
  • Veneers: Veneers are a more expensive treatment, but they can transform multiple aspects of your smile in one treatment, including the shape, size, position, and shade of your teeth. Plus, with proper care, they can last more than a decade.
  • Gum Recontouring / Crown Lengthening: This treatment permanently removes excess gum tissue to reveal more of your teeth, so they look larger, and your smile appears less “gummy.”
  • Metal-Free Dental Restorations: Remove unsightly older metal restorations and replace them with durable, natural tooth-colored fillings that blend seamlessly into your smile.
  • Smile Makeover: This deluxe treatment combines several procedures together. It is often the most expensive option, but it is the easiest and most comprehensive way to get exactly what you want in the best timeframe possible.

Cosmetic Dentistry Can Be an Investment Worth Making

Although cosmetic dentistry treatment can feel like a big financial commitment, remember that it’s also an important investment in yourself that will pay dividends as time goes on. If you feel self-conscious about your smile, improving it can boost your confidence and self-esteem, empowering you to improve your relationships, social life, and professional achievements.

How We Make Cosmetic Dentistry Affordable

Although purely aesthetic dental care is considered elective and thus not covered by most dental insurance plans, at Smile 312 Chicago’s Premier Dentist, we are pleased to accept payment plans from our preferred third-party lender, CareCredit. CareCredit can break up the cost of your care into multiple, low-to-no interest monthly payments that are better suited to your budget.

If you’re interested in learning more about how cosmetic dentistry treatment can improve your smile and your life, please schedule a consultation with Dr. Mahler today. Our team looks forward to helping you transform your smile in a way that works best for your budget.

Cosmetic Dentistry FAQs

Is It Difficult to Chew with Veneers?

You might find that chewing with new veneers feels strange at first, but it shouldn’t be outright difficult. We’ll shave off a tiny sliver of your enamel and customize your veneers so that they fit your smile like a glove and provide a comfortable bite. They’re also made out of durable materials that don’t break easily! After a week or two, eating with your veneers will likely feel perfectly natural.

If you do experience difficulties chewing, please let us know. It’s possible your veneers need to be readjusted or recemented.

What Should I Know About Dental Diode Lasers?

Firstly, you may also hear a dental diode laser referred to as a “soft tissue laser.” This is because they’re typically used for treatments that involve removing oral tissue, such as gum recontouring.

It might sound rather intense to point a laser at your gums. However, dental lasers aren’t as powerful as what you might see supervillains using in movies. In fact, a soft tissue laser is gentler than more traditional dental tools!

What’s really cool about dental lasers is that they also speed up the recovery process. Since we’ll effectively be using a concentrated beam of light to recontour your gums, the tissue will almost immediately cauterize. Your gums will ultimately heal faster and will be much less likely to develop an infection.

What are the Top Perks of Getting Cosmetic Dental Treatment?

The benefits of cosmetic dentistry might not be as obvious as other types, but they shouldn’t be underestimated! Here’s why many patients decide to beautify their pearly whites:

Because it can be a long-term investment. Many dental cosmetic treatments can go for 10 to 15 years without needing to be repaired or replaced, making them quite cost-effective.

For the boost to their confidence. If you think your teeth are unattractive, you’re more likely to try and hide your smile or feel self-conscious in social situations. After getting a cosmetic dental treatment, patients tend to stop worrying about the appearance of their teeth.

It helps them look and feel younger. Dental staining, chips, cracks, and a disproportional gumline can give patients a tired or aged appearance. By treating aesthetic blemishes with cosmetic dentistry, they experience a rejuvenation of sorts and enjoy a more youthful, vibrant look.

They can say “goodbye” to dental stains. Tarnished teeth are one of the most common dental cosmetic complaints, and unfortunately, it’s a natural part of everyday wear and tear. With cosmetic dentistry, though, patients can keep their smile looking white and bright.

What Exactly is Cosmetic Dentistry?

Basically, cosmetic dentistry is an umbrella term for treatments that focus on beautifying a patient’s smile. While they can often have oral health benefits, they’re not strictly medically necessary in the same way that root canals, tooth extractions, and tooth replacements are. For example, if you’re considering a tooth-colored crown because your pearly white is damaged and at greater risk of developing an infection, your treatment would be considered restorative. But if you’re considering a tooth-colored crown because you don’t like the way your current metal crown looks, then your treatment is absolutely cosmetic.

The lines between different types of dental treatments can get blurry, but at the end of the day, your cosmetic dentist in Chicago wants to help you feel better about the aesthetics of your smile.
